Microbeam diffraction is a better tool for this study as it can probe misorientation generated by deformation directly in 3D. We have started to investigate self-affinity developed by deformation in Cu. The first experiment on a (100) single crystal indicated that fractal exists in misorientation along the loading direction at various depth in the sample. We plan to extend the study to single crystals with different orientation with respect to the loading axis. The microbeam measurements will compare with the surface roughness measurements to be performed at ORNL. equipment_required: experiment: Self-affinity in deformed Cu foreign_nationals: hazards: instrument: 34ID-E microbeam instrument_other: minimumdays: 7 name: Judy Pang nonmembers: unacceptable_dates: March, 2005 z34ID_change_undulator: no z34ID_details: We will need energy setting of 9keV and taper of 2mm for the measurements z34ID_parasitic: no z34ID_taper: yes #REMOTE_HOST: pcp03710363pcs.westk01.tn.comcast.net #REMOTE_ADDR: 68.34.200.85 #CONTENT_LENGTH: 1215 #HTTP_REFERER: http://www.uni.aps.anl.gov/unireq.htm #HTTP_USER_AGENT: Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 6.0; Windows NT 5.1; SV1)
